ADAM
GORDON - Principal Veterinarian
Adam Gordon graduated from the University of
Sydney a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with
Honours in 1990. Since graduation Adam has been
exclusively in small animal practice. He started
at Maroubra Veterinary Hospital as an employee
in December 1991, and became the owner in October
1996. His veterinary interests are all aspects
of small animal medicine and surgery. He also
has a special interest in medicine of aquarium
fish and is keen to see as many fish as possible.
Adam is in his 3rd year of a 4 year Master of
Veterinary Studies degree being provided externally
through Murdoch University.
Adam's hobbies include marine fish aquaria and
surfing. When not working he can usually be
found surfing at Maroubra Beach all year round.
During summer he watches or listens to the cricket,
and during winter he watches the rugby. He used
to be a keen cricketer and rugby player, but
had to give them both away as the rigours of
running a Veterinary Practice did not leave
enough time for these pursuits.
Adam is married to Jacquie, with 2 children,
Sophie (2 ½ years old) and Jack (10 months old).
He also has a dog, "Frank", who is 6 years old,
and a cat, "Boof" who is 8 years old. Both were
strays dumped at the hospital who were subsequently
adopted.

Mission
statement: At Maroubra Veterinary Hospital, we're dedicated
to:
Animal
Care - To provide the highest possible standard of care
for our patients; to treat them humanely and with compassion
at all times; to provide them with the same pain management
a person would receive in the same circumstances; and above
all to remember that the welfare of the patient is our primary
concern.
 |
Client
Care - To listen to our clients and understand their
needs; to foster the special bond that exists between
the owner and the pet; to project our caring attitude
to owners; and to educate our clients so that they can
make informed choices about the care that their pet
receives. |
MAROUBRA
VETERINARY HOSPITAL, PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT AND
A CARING ATMOSPHERE FOR YOUR PET.
Maroubra
Veterinary Hospital is a registered "A" Class Veterinary
Hospital which was established in 1964. The hospital is
air conditioned throughout to ensure the comfort of our
patients. We have separate hospital areas for cats and dogs.
The hospital is fully equipped to ensure we can provide
the highest standard of care for our patients. Our facility
includes:
RADIOLOGY
- facilities for plain and contrast radiology, high detail
screens and films for accurate imaging of small patients.
 |
DI
AGNOSTIC
ULTRASOUND - essential for thorough investigation
of heart problems, abdominal problems, and pregnancy
diagnosis. |
PATHOLOGY
LABORATORY - this allows us to make rapid (within 10
minutes) diagnosis of many diseases. We still utilise outside
laboratory facilities, but find that our Idexx laboratory
is especially useful when we are presented with a sick pet
late at night or at weekends when we need a rapid diagnosis
and outside laboratories are not available. Our in-house
pathology laboratory is also very helpful for monitoring
various diseases and response to treatment.
 |
ANAESTHETIC/CRITICAL
CARE MONITORING - our hospital uses the most up
to date monitoring equipment for your pet when it undergoes
anaesthetic and surgery or is critically unwell. During
anaesthesia, we monitor your pets heart rate, respiratory
rate, mean arterial pressure, systolic arterial pressure,
diastolic arterial pressure, body temperature, and level
of oxygen in the blood (oxygen saturation). |
FLUID
INFUSION PUMPS - these allow us to ensure sick patients
receive intravenous fluids around the clock at a set rate.
SURGICAL
EQUIPMENT - we have an extensive range of surgical equipment
for soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery allowing us to deal
with a wide range of problems from simple procedures to
complex fracture repairs.
INFECTION
CONTROL - At Maroubra Veterinary Hospital we have the
newest equipment to ensure adequate sterilisation of equipment.
When your pet undergoes surgery, whether for a minor procedure
or a major procedure you can rest assured that the highest
standards of infection control will be practised, thereby
minimising the risk of post-operative complications.
SPECIALIST
REFERRAL - whilst we are equipped to deal with almost
any problem your pet may have, we also recognise that there
are occasions when referral to a veterinary specialist is
the most appropriate course of action. These specialists
have undertaken years of supervised training in their field
of expertise and are highly skilled. We deal with veterinary
specialist surgeons, ophthalmologists (eye specialists),
neurologists, dermatologists, radiologists, and internists.
We also have specialists that visit our practice on a regular
basis.
At Maroubra
Veterinary Hospital we have staff who live on site, so that
any patient requiring around the clock attention receives
the necessary care. Just because our doors are closed for
business, it does not mean that we stop caring for your
pet.
24
HOUR EMERGENCY - Of course our pets can become suddenly
unwell or be in an accident at any time of the day or night.
We provide a 24 hour service to ensure your pet can get
the emergency attention it needs at any time of the day
or night. Just call our regular business number and a recorded
message will provide details to get you in touch with the
duty veterinarian.
